Common Setup Procedures

Common Setup Procedures

This article describes the common machine setup procedures for most configurations.

Select Machine Setup

  1. Select "System | Machine Setup" from the CMM-Manager ribbon bar.
(Note: The machine setup password is "service".)

Setup Machine Properties

  1. Switch to the "Machine" tab.
  2. Enter or select the proper machine properties and options, except the "Working Volume" group items.
  3. Enter the MEA offset. The MEA offset is the distance from the CMM manufacturer’s MEA reference point which is normally at the end of the ram to CMM-Manager’s MEA reference point which is at the rotation center of the probe head. The offset should be given in machine coordinate system values.
  4. The "Working Volume" information is used by CMM-Manager for inspection path planning and collision detection. The working ranges of all three axes need to be specified:
    1. Use "Tip Manager" (from the "Probe | Tip Manager" tab) to select a tip pointing perpendicular to the X-axis.  Create one if required.  Any calibrated or non-calibrated tip may be used.
    2. Move the machine to the minus X-axis working limit. Enter the current reading into the X(min) edit box, or click the [<] button to automatically enter the value from the CMM.
    3. Move the machine to the plus X-axis working limit. Enter the current reading into the X(max) edit box, or click the [<] button to automatically enter the value from the CMM.
    4. Repeat the above steps to set the working limits of the Y-axis and the Z-axis.  The minus Z-axis should be set with the probe head "just above" the surface of the table.
  5. An Error Map file is used for the volumetric error compensation of the Machine.
    1. For certain controller types, the error map resides in the controller itself and it may need to be extracted and emailed to support@qxcmm.com to get it converted to the CMM-Manager native error map format if necessary.
    2. (Optional) To enable CMM-Manager’s native error map, select the CMMMGR option and click on the […] button to browse and select the CMM-Manager native error map file.
  6. Click the [Apply] button to save the changes made to this page.

Setup Probe Properties

  1. Switch to the "Probe" tab.
  2. Enter or select the proper probe properties and options.
  3. Click the [Apply] button to save the changes made to this page.
Note: The graphical display of the probe head will be updated in accordance with your selection.

Exit Machine Setup

  1. Click the [OK] button to close the "Machine Setup" dialog.
