Gear inspection using CMM-Manager

Gear Inspection - Start Here

Overview

CMM-Manager’s Gear Inspection package provides comprehensive involute gear measurement and reporting capabilities for DCC CMMs. It allows users to perform gear inspections using an existing CMM equipped with a touch probe, eliminating the need for a dedicated gear inspection system and minimizing additional equipment costs.

The Gear Module provides a complete set of tools for defining, measuring, and evaluating gears. Key features include:

  • Parametric gear definition
  • Built-in gear alignment routines
  • Automatic measurement path generation for various gear types
  • Industry-standard gear inspection reports
  • Export of raw measurement data for use with third-party gear analysis and reporting software

Gear Inspection can also be integrated with conventional CMM inspection programs that include CAD Import. This enables general dimensional inspection, CAD-based profile inspection, and gear-specific measurement and reporting to be performed within a single inspection program.

Creating a Gear Inspection Program

All gear inspection functions are available from the Gear tab on the Ribbon Bar.

To create a basic gear inspection program in CMM-Manager, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Define Gear command and specify the required dimensions and parameters for the gear being inspected.
  2. Select Calibrate Gear Tips to perform the required tip calibration. If necessary, CMM-Manager will automatically create and calibrate additional tips based on the defined gear geometry.
  3. Insert the Gear Ref. Frame command to establish the gear-specific reference frame used for the inspection. If the Use Current Ref. Frame option is enabled, additional alignment operations may be required before establishing the gear reference frame.
  4. Insert the appropriate gear inspection commands based on the characteristics and requirements to be evaluated. Available inspection functions include:

  5. One or more of these inspection functions can be included in the program as required.
