Gear Profile Inspection with CMM-Manager

Profile Check

Profile Check

Once a gear is defined and the reference frame has been established, we can configure and teach a Profile Check into the program database. The Profile Check will evaluate a gear tooth's involute profile by measuring points along the tooth at predefined depth. It will then output a report to help evaluate that data relative to the gear definition.

Teaching Profile Check

Output File - Name the report output file for the Profile Check.
Check Face (%) - The depth in percentage of face width at which the profile check has to be performed. For a bevel gear, it is measured from the small end to the large end.

Touch Points - The number of points (per tooth) that make up the measured profile.
Tooth Count - The number of teeth that will be evaluated with the Profile Check. This is a dropdown with options to check up to 4 teeth per Profile Check.
Tooth Numbers - The tooth numbers that will be measured with the Profile Check relative to the first tooth. The number of teeth to define will be dependent on the Tooth Count drop down configuration.
Create Graphical Report - Check this box to create a supplemental Graphical Report to help visualize the Profile Check measurement results. If checked, you will need to name this report individually.
Smooth - This is a Graphical Report parameter. Check this box to make curves smoother by interpolating measurement data.
Mark - Check this box to place a cross mark in the display to indicate a data point for the Profile Check.

Reporting Profile Check

Below is the example graphical report from profile check.

X-axis is the roll angle of the tooth.

Y-axis shows the lead deviation of left & right flanks of measured teeth. Please note that positive and negative directions are flipped for left and right flanks.

Distance between horizontal dashed lines represent the amount of profile deviation indicated in the title.

Points from the profile check are available in Feature Database for additional analysis such as Cloud-to-CAD. Furthermore, a text file containing the raw data output will be saved in C:\ProgramData\QxSoft\CMM-Manager ####\Gear (#### is the version of your CMM-Manager).
