Backup / Restore a License to an Existing PC or a Cloned Hard Drive

Backup / Restore a License to an Existing PC or a Cloned Hard Drive

Important! Please be sure to Back up the existing software before removing the license for reformatting or cloning.
In all cases, you must have a 2nd PC with CMM-Manager installed as a temporary intermediate place to store the license.  It cannot be the cloned drive until instructed to do so.  You cannot export the license to a file and import it directly back to the same PC.  The same PC cannot be both the source and destination on its own.

As instructed below, you must export the license to a 2nd PC before cloning the drive.

Notes:

  1. It is strongly recommended that you create a Help Desk File before beginning this process.
  2. This procedure cannot be used to backup / restore a license between Nikon branded versions of CMM-Manager (3.10 and earlier) and QxSoft QxSoft branded versions of CMM-Manager (2020 and later).
  3. If you are going to backup / restore a Soft Lock between Nikon branded versions of CMM-Manager (3.10 or earlier), replace the name ‘QxSoft’ in paths with ‘Nikon Metrology.’  The RUS utility is named ‘License Remote Update System’ for Nikon and ‘QxSoft License RUS’ for QxSoft in the Windows start menu.
  4. The transfer process will not work with all previous versions of CMM-Manager.  Some Nikon version licenses were not "re-hostable".  The only way to know is to try.
  5. Windows start menu locations will appear differently based on your Windows version.

"Cliff's Notes" version of the instructions:
