ComUC USB Driver

Ensure the ComUC USB drivers are properly installed.  The drivers may be downloaded from here:

Probe Head Controller
  1. Serial: The cable connecting to the PHC should be plugged into a serial port (COM) of the PC. The default baud rate for the serial port settings is 9600 which is common for older CMMs. For newer CMMs, such as Crysta Apex, the baud rate is 19200.
  1. GPIB: The PHC controller's default PAD = 4 when used with a Mitutoyo CMM,  but it could revert to 26 on some Windows 7 PCs using the latest NI 488.2 software.

Applcation Driver Files

CMM-Manager (64 or 32-bit) communicates to the controller via the 32-bit “UCDBW.dll” (version 4.0.0.0 or newer). This file, along with the "UCDBW.ini" file, can be obtained from the OEM device driver disk or the PC which runs the OEM metrology software.
Info
  1. The files are normally located under the install directory of the OEM metrology software, for example, "C:\MCOSMOS_VXX\EXE".
  2. If the files cannot be located, try using the files included in the ComUC USB Driver package linked above - in the "32BitApp" folder.
Alert
  1. If the files are located in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Mitutoyo\UC", MCOSMOS is 64-bit (version 5.0 and above), and the installed "UCDBW.dll" cannot be used. Try using the files included in the ComUC USB Driver package linked above - in the "32BitApp" folder.

The "UCDBW.dll" and "UCDBW.ini" files need to be copied to the following location:
  1. Windows 64-bit OS
    1. CMM-Manager 2020 or later:
      1. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\QxSoft\CmmServices
    2. CMM-Manager 3.8 - 3.10:
      1. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nikon\NMCmmServices
    3. CMM-Manager pre-3.8:
      1. C:\Windows\SysWOW64
  2. Windows 32-bit OS
    1. C:\Windows\System32
Info
If you get the error "CMM is offline" when trying to connect to the CMM, check the following:
  1. "UCDBW.dll" is the right version
  2. "UCDBW.ini" is in the same location as "UCDBW.dll"
  3. UC400 USB device shows in Windows Device Manager
  4. CMM is on and MCOSMOS can connect if installed
  5. Antivirus or security software doesn't block driver communication
