Mitutoyo SP25 – best practice and settings for scanning

Recommended Deflection Values:
  1. For calibration:
    1. 0.2 - deflection 1
    2. 0.5 - deflection 2
Note that longer probes, especially with SM25-3 or SM25-4 modules, may error out occasionally at these values. If this occurs, increase the deflection 1 value to 0.3 or 0.35.
  1. For measurements:
    1. It is recommended to use the mid or average value of the two calibration deflection values for measurements. Using the values noted above, the recommended deflection value for measurement will be 0.35.
Possible Issues and resolution:

Issues:
Resolution:
"Unexpected Touch" error after a probe angle change, often accompanied by a loud “pop” of the air pressure being released
  1. Shut down CMM-Manager
  2. Browse to the folder "C:\ProgramData\QxSoft\CMM-Manager xx\Driver"
  3. Edit the "IQComUCPCI.ini" file in notepad
  4. Change the INHIBIT_PROBE_DURING_MOVEPROBE value from "0" to "1"
    1. INHIBIT_PROBE_DURING_MOVEPROBE      1
    2. Note: If this value is not already in the file, you may need to copy and add the entry to the *.ini file
  5. Save the file
  6. Launch CMM-Manager
Error E361
This error indicates that "The probe separated from a workpiece when Nominal Scanning is executed."
  1. Increase the deflection limit. For example, increasing the deflection 1 value from 0.2 to 0.3 or 0.35.
  2. Ensure that the EWL (effective working length) of the fitted stylus is within the specified range.
For more details, refer to the Mitutoyo error code table.
Error E362
This error indicates that "The probe deflected too much into a workpiece when Nominal Scanning is executed."
  1. Decrease the deflection limit. For example, decreasing the deflection 2 value from 0.5 to 0.4.
For more details, refer to the Mitutoyo error code table.
The probe failed to stop after scanning a feature
  1. Shut down CMM-Manager
  2. Browse to folder "C:\ProgramData\QxSoft\CMM-Manager xx\Driver"
  3. Edit the "IQComUCPCI.ini" file in notepad
  4. Increase the SCAN_STOP_ZONE value, e.g. from "2.0" to "5.0"
    1. SCAN_STOP_ZONE               5.0
    2. Note: If this value is not already in the file, you may need to copy and add the entry to the *.ini file
  5. Save the file
  6. Launch CMM-Manager
