Serial Arm
Models: Gold/Silver/Sterling/Bronze
Notes
No Faro software need to be installed nor any arm spec files need to be copied.
Null modem serial cable always.
The serial cable needs to be connected to COM1 always.
If the arm does not have any LED's on, it could be deriving power from the 9pin serial cable. (Such arms come with old IBM custom PC's) Special wiring needs to be done to supply power when using with new off the market PC's. (see attachment)

USB Arm
Models: Titanium/Platinum, Edge, Quantum, *Quantum Max, etc.
(*Quantum Max - Only supported by CMM-Manager 2022 and later versions)
Before embarking on the installation process, ensure to take note of the following items listed below. All, some, or none of the options may apply. As such, ensure to follow all instructions as it relates. 
  • To home, move the arm joints about the individual rotation axis. 
  • For PC upgrades or replacements, it is recommended to use the same driver version currently running. 
    CMM-Manager 2022 and later:
    1. Install the latest Faro USB Driver that is compatible with your Faro arm.
    2. CMM-Manager will connect to the Faro arm via Faro Manager.
    Idea
    1. Unlike older versions, It is no longer needed to specify the location of FaroArmUsbWrapper.dll.
    2. For upgrade installation, if CMM-Manager won't connect with Faro arm, check to ensure the location of FaroArmUsbWrapper.dll is empty in Machine Setup
    CMM-Manager 2021 and earlier:
    1. FaroArmUsbDriver5 software or later needs to be installed. We recommend: 
    Idea
    • Version 6.5.1.4 for newer arms
    • Version 5.8.4.5 for older arms
    • The "Faro USB Arm" will show up in Windows Device Manager once the correct driver is installed successfully.
    1. From Machine Setup, specify the location of FaroArmUsbWrapper.dll - installed by FARO USB Drivers: C:\Program Files\Common Files\FARO Shared\FaroArmUsbWrapper.dll.
    2. CMM-Manager will start the Faro ATL server, which controls the Faro USB arm. Note that some older versions (5.8.4.5) did not come with Faro Manager.
    3. The arm needs to home before the DRO will turn green and show coordinates. Home the arm by rotating the joints about the individual axis.

    Idea
    When installing a driver older than what's currently installed, it's necessary to uninstall the newer version first. If it failed to uninstall, try deleting the following folders: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\FARO Shared\" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\FARO Shared\"
