Assigning Probes to Racks

Assigning Probes to Racks

The instructions in this article do not apply to systems utilizing the I++ protocol where racks are managed by UCC Server.  Please refer to the appropriate Renishaw user guides available from www.renishaw.com or by pressing F1 for context sensitive help while in UCC Server.

Configuring the FCR25 Rack

The FCR25 rack allows adapters to be added to ports giving the user flexibility in choosing the type of components to stored in each port.  This step should be done before assigning probes to racks.

The appropriate adapter must be installed for the type of component to be placed in each port.   Ports adapters may be installed in any order across any number of FCR25 racks.

If adapters are required for the FCR25, you must also indicate which type of adapter is installed in the FCR25 configuration dialog.  This must be done before attempting to assign components to avoid an error message indicating the wrong adapter is installed.

Assignment Scenarios
Note: TP200 components are handled in exactly the same way as TP20 components.  An SCR200 rack is required.
Note: If a Stylus Module is not assigned to a port in a rack, the user will be prompted to manually place that Stylus Module on the tool or remove it as required.  All other operations will be performed automatically.

Single Component Builds

Certain probing configurations are capable of only changing a single component such as the PH10T where only probe modules can be changed.
  1. All components in the Extensions and Touch Probes window should have the AutoJoint/Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked.
  2. The Stylus is assigned to a Probe Station and Port.  All components in the Extensions and Touch Probes window beginning with the Stylus Module, including any additional thread adapters and stylus extensions, down through the Stylus will be placed in the same port.

Two Component Builds

A PH10M with a PAAx is capable of changing two components.
  1. The top component is a PAAx + TP20 Body.  An extension such as the PE/PEL line of extensions may be included.
  2. The bottom component is a TP20 module + Stylus along with any thread adapters and stylus extensions.
  1. The PAAx is assigned to a Probe Station and Port.  Both components (plus any PE/PEL extensions) will be placed in the same port.
  2. Everything else, including any additional thread adapters/extensions should have the AutoJoint / Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked.
  3. The Stylus is assigned to a Probe Station and a Port.  All components in the Extensions and Touch Probes window beginning with the Stylus Module, including any additional thread adapters and stylus extensions, down through the Stylus will be placed in the same port.
Note: All tools which share the same PAAx must have the shared PAAx assigned to the same Station and Port.
Note: If there is only a single PAAx, and no other top components in use in the system, leave the AutoJoint / Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked for the PAAx as well.  This configuration functions as though it is a Single Component Build and only the Styli will be changeable.

Three Component Builds

A PH10M with an SP25M scanning probe is capable of changing three components.
  1. The top component is the SP25M which can be changed with a PAAx + TP20 using an ACR3 in a complex setup.
  2. The middle component is an SM25-x module for scanning, or a TM25-20 module to allow touch probes to be used on the SP25.
  3. The bottom component is an SH25-x for scanning, or TP20 module for touch probing.
  1. The SP25M is assigned to an ACR3 Probe Station and Port.
  2. The SM25-x or TM25-20 are assigned to an FCR25 Probe Station and Port.
  3. Everything else, including any additional thread adapters/extensions should have the AutoJoint / Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked.
  4. The Stylus is assigned to a Probe Station and a Port.  All components in the Extensions and Touch Probes window beginning with the Stylus Holder / Module, including any additional thread adapters and stylus extensions, down through the Stylus will be placed in the same port.

Note: All tools which share the SP25M must have the shared SP25M assigned to the same Station and Port.  All tools that share a common SM25-x module must have the shared SP25-x module assigned to the same station and port.
Note: If there is only a single SP25M, and no other top components in use in the system, leave the AutoJoint / Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked for the SP25M as well.  This configuration functions as though it is a Double Component Build and only the Modules and Styli will be changeable.

Placing Multiple Components in One Port

Multiple components can be placed in a single port as appropriate.  For instance, an SM25-x and SH25-x + Stylus can all be placed in the SM25-x assigned port.  Both components are assigned to the SM25-x port in this scenario.
Since an SH25-x cannot normally be assigned to the incompatible SM25-x port, you must assign the components "from the top down", assigning the SM25-x first, then the SH25-x + stylus to the same port.  Both will be dropped off in the SM25-x port together.  This applies to all other similar scenarios where ports would normally be incompatible.
Examples
PAAx + TP20/Stylus in an ACR3

  1. Assign the PAAx to an ACR3 port
  2. Assign the TP20/Stylus to the same ACR3 port
  3. All other components in the Extensions and Touch Probes window should have the AutoJoint/Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked.

SP25M +
      SM25-x + SH25-x/Stylus or
      TM25-20 + TP20/Stylus in an ACR3

  1. Assign the SP25M to an ACR3 port
  2. Assign the SM25-x or TM25-20x to the same ACR3 port
  3. Assign the SH25-x/Stylus or TP20/Stylus to the same ACR3 port
  4. All other components in the Extensions and Touch Probes window should have the AutoJoint/Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked.

SP25M in an ACR3 (or not assigned) +
      (SM25-x + SH25-x/Stylus) or
      (TM25-20 + TP20/Stylus) in an FCR25

  1. Assign the SP25M to an ACR3 port (or leave unassigned if there are no other top-level components)
  2. Assign the SM25-x or TM25-20 to an FCR25 port
  3. Assign the SH25-x/Stylus or TM25-20/Stylus to the same FCR25 port
  4. All other components in the Extensions and Touch Probes window should have the AutoJoint/Can Assign to Station checkbox unchecked.
