CMM-Manager | Align Part

Align Part

The Align Part command is used to realign a partially inspected part that has been physically moved on the CMM table.  This can happen either by accident or because production priorities required the part to be removed from the table to allow for the inspection of a different part.  Being able to realign allows work to be interrupted without losing previous measurements.

Alert
Before using the Align Part command, you must be certain that the proper reference frame is selected; either from the drop down list or, if in Teach On mode, be sure the last line of the reference frame to be retaught is highlighted in the program.

Align a Relocated Part
  1. Open the program
  2. Set the machine to Online.  You must be in Teach mode (Blue background)
  3. Place the cursor on the line that completes the alignment to be retaught.  This may be a simple canned alignment, or the last line of a traditional alignment.

  1. From the Alignment tab on the Ribbon Bar, select Align Part.  The Align Part dialog is displayed.  (Do not click the Align button until the following steps are complete)

Notes
The old reference frame is displayed in yellow along with the current reference frame displayed as red, green, and blue.
  1. Repeat the original alignment steps.
    1. Any appropriate alignment creation or modification tools may be used.
    2. The alignment will be updated in the background, but the code will not be added to the program.
  2. Click the Align button on the Align Part dialog to complete the process.
    1. The old blinking yellow graphic will disappear, and the old reference frame (and CAD) will be moved to the new location.
    2. Everything should now be in-sync to allow continued programming.

  1. Save the program.
Notes
Any features that were temporarily created for the Align Part function are removed from the Feature Database.
The program may now be run on the machine, or it is possible to continue adding to the program.
