I am revisiting this issue since I am having to help one of our suppliers setup a method to measure slots. They need to be able to report the position of the pattern and each slot's tangential position relative to the pattern. These are radially aligned slots, the radial position should not be considered except to confirm correct reporting.

Typically, I align the part to one of the features of the pattern, so my question is does this feature become a keystone to the pattern report?

-In other words when reported is the alignment feature in the pattern reported as nominal when dropping all the features of the pattern into a Bi-Lateral position report that uses the pattern as the axis datum?

-Or would this method consider all the features and report the deviation from that consideration?

-Should I be using composite position?
