This topic has been discussed a long time ago, but I think it is worth consideration.
There are times when checking parts that have deviations from CAD, that the ability to measure features relative to previously measured features would be a big help.
For example, if we were molding a "hoop" in plastic, that had some undulation in the Z Axis surface, and also required a OD measurement (In XY Plane), that has to be measured on a surface that is very shallow in the Z direction, (therefore difficult to keep probe points on the correct surface) that using the Z axis points to locate the correct Z Depth on the diameter would really help improve speed and accuracy.
In a machined world, these measurements are usually much easier, but on surfaces that warp and bow it can be very time consuming (Edge Points comes to mind).
Would it be possible to incorporate an ability to measure a feature relative to another that has already been measured?
