I have a new part program where I am scanning the profile of a gear, but I would like to know the pitch diameter. Is there a way I can turn my scan point cloud into a pitch diameter measurement? It looks like this can typically be done by measuring over pins/wires. I have found the best fit wire should be (I think) .054". So, I would need to create two .054" diameter circles tangent to opposing gear teeth point clouds. Can this be done?
