USING A STAR PROBE ON A MANUAL CMM
I have a Mitutoyo Manual CMM with CMM Manager installed. I have been able to set up a star probe assembly. We are planning measure a large INSIDE diameter of a GROOVE (about 26 inches). We seemed to have set-up the probe correctly - however when we measure
MOVE PART OR LEAPFROG
I have a part that is 20 inches larger than my table. for the move part command it seems as though I need to be able to remeasure my alignment points from the before move section. this normally wouldn't be an issue if I was able to remeasure the datums.
Reference Tip Usage
New machine, new questions. In general practice, I've heard you don't want to use your reference tip for part measurements. Our new machine now has a rack for changing tips, but I currently only have two stylus holders (SH-25-2), so I am currently limited
Re-create all paths
Is there a trick to have CMM-M re-create all paths in a program after changing probes/styli? I will be moving some programs that were created using a TP2 to a machine with a SP25. I know CMM-M sometimes gets the probe body pretty close to the parts, and
Report with VB
Is there a way to start a report print using VB? I would like to print interim reports at several points in the program. best regards carsten
Mathematical calculations / writing values to variables.
I am running CMM Manager 2020 on a Manual CMM. My programming experience is with WinCMES, Camio, Modus. In those, you can declare a variable (whether it be Integer, Real, Boolean, etc.), write your value to it, and perform mathematical calculations with
Variable
I am not sure how to go about this. We are a job shop, so it is very common to have a single or only a few parts to check per job. Is it possible to have a program that I use a manual alignment to find top and center of a circle of the bore, and then
Programming Offline - Multiple Machines
When programming offline, with multiple machines, is there a way to load machine profiles? Our new machine will be larger and have scanning capability, our old machine is smaller and has touch probing. How will I switch between the machines to take advantage
Scanning an outside profile?
I've been using CMM-M for years, but am very new to scanning in it. Is there a way to scan an outside profile like the one below in a single, continuous scan? I've only been able to manage scanning one curve at a time.
Reporting Alignments
We recently had our annual Boeing DPD audit and this one was a doozy. Does anyone here have experience in dealing with D6-51991 by chance? I'm wondering how to best satisfy the reports section (6.2.2). One thing I am getting hung up on is needing to include
MMC calculation on perpendicularity
My Datum B cylinder is measuring about .004" over MMC. Why am I seeing only a .001" bonus when reporting my perpendicularity? Am I missing something?
Getting a PH20 to play nice
I spend a fair amount of time trying to get our PH20 head to play nice with CMM Manager. Attached is a case where 1/2 the points on the OD were inaccessible when measuring 101mm and -2mm depth, but all the points were accessible at 97mm and +2mm depth.
Measuring a segment
Hello All I am trying to measure a segment to confirm the arc (OD and ID). It takes 32 segments to make a circle (I am only working with 1/32 of a circle). I am working with a DXF file. How would I go about confirming the arc is correct with such little

Furniture not in correct location ?
CMM-M ver 2021 12.1.1.8411 I located the SCR200 CAD model in my environment as furniture. When I jog the probe around it is in the correct position, but when running a program, or anytime I change a probe assembly, during the probe assembly change
how do you change search distance?
i feel like i've changed this setting before. but i'm trying it now, and everything is grayed out. what am i doing wrong?
probes from ucc server to cmm manager
i would like to get co_test into cmm manager hello. I am new to cmm manager. our shop just got the 2021 upgrade and so far so good. however, I was wondering if there are steps to take and move a probe file from ucc to cmm manager. or if it should just
Backward compatibility
We are kicking around the idea of retrofitting our old Sheffield RS150 with a REVO 5-axis setup, which currently runs CMM Manager 3.5, PH10M head, and TP2 probing . I was wondering, if we upgraded to the REVO, with new probing, and CMM Manager 5-axis
Flip Part Over
I have a 2 sided part. All my datums are on side A. I align my part normally using the datum structure. I want to flip my part over on the CMM table mid program, then remeasure some repeatable features just like Leap Frog works, except I want the CMM
CAD alignment offline
typically when i perform a CAD alignment offline I would get 0 deviation since I'm not connected to the machine. however i have started a position at another company that has an older version of CMM manager from 2015 and i get large deviations even in
Moving Part to new Position... See these photos attached in this Topic
Hello CMM Community. I know this topic is covered, but I'm struggling to understand the written directions on how to execute what I need. I am attaching 3 photos of the same part but in different positions. How do I program this into 1 program. I want
Tip Change
Is there a way to adjust the distance the head travels for a tip angle change? I am moving from one side of the part to the other to measure a bore perpendicular to the view shown. For reference my work envelope is 47" wide, the part is centered on the
CAD Teach/Surface Selection
Anyone else have issues with the CAD teach functions picking surfaces on the back of CAD? Hoping its a setting I can correct.
Can the Point/Path locks be disabled?
Is there a way to disable the lock points/path function? We have found that this causes more issues than it solves for us and it would be awesome if it could be disabled.
How to properly use our Star Stylus
All of our Probe Assemblies use 3P, 6P, and Disc Probes. We are trying to find the runout (not total runout) of a feature, but every time we change tips (Probe assembly gets a 90 degree angle), I am starting to believe there are some mechanical kinks
Manual Retract Distance
Please help, I'm having to measure parts manually and for the love of God I can't find where to change the manual retract distance. When I probe holes the probe crashes because the retract distance is too much. I'm new to
SERVICE OR ANY Manual for MAG-3
Anyone has or know where I can get a service manual for MAG-3, please. any info would be great please. thank you
RTP20 with Deva004
Is there any experience in RTP20 hitting Pole with the lever on the way to indexing to a new position? Ends in E-Stop
How to use an Ellipsoidal surface as the Primary datum?
I have a part that uses an ellipsoidal surface as the primary datum (-A-), a center plane as the secondary datum (-B-), and a curved surface as the tertiary datum (-C-). I am having trouble figuring out how to properly align this part on the CMM. FYI:
Update reference tip
We are new users of CMM manager and so far it is excellent! We just ran into an issue where we have our probe assembly setup with a reference tip calibrated and have been using it successfully but had to add an extension in between the PAA1 module and
Advanced alignments / Cloud-to-CAD alignment
I'll preface this by saying that 95% of our parts are machined and have nice, orthogonal faces. The past few days I've been getting parts that have no flat surfaces. They are essentially a contoured ridgeline, that will become a fixture for an internal
calibration loop?
so i've always been told that when calibrating, you want it to check at .0003 (inch) or better. and if it doesn't, rerun the calibration and see if it gets better. my question is, is there a way to make the calibration sequence loop and keep rerunning
Circular Paths
I am running a Mitutoyo Apex Bright-710. I have Circular Paths enabled in Path Creation Preferences, but all generated paths at linear. Is this a machine limitation, or is there some setting of which I am unaware?
MEASURE THE MAX DISTANCE BETWEEN TO CYLINDERS
Can this be added to the software. Right now the software only let you do max distance between two circle or a circle and a cylinder
Compensation Map
Hi everyone, this problem i'm having it's more service related, i have a manual CMM Mitutoyo with UD1 card and runing CMM Manager 2020, the thing here it's that in the X axis i'm having a deviation of 24 microns in a 400 mm gage, but i can't compensate
Surface Profile Tolerancing
I am working on a part (with CAD) that requires a one sided surface profile callout. The requirement is a Surface Profile of .030" to Datum A (Bottom Plane). I am not able to share the print, but it requires the profile to be only to the material side
Depth of cylinder at angle
I've come across this problem a couple of times with other drawings, and just end up checking manually. Any suggestions how to get this measurement? Cylinder intersects plane at an angle, and the drawing is asking for the depth at the lowest intersecting
MMC to LMC
I have a small part with a through hole too small to probe (Ø.052 of attached dwg), so I put a pin gage in the hole and measure the pin. I've done this a couple of times by modifying the CAD data from an inner diameter to an outer, and changing the length
Improve accuracy
Kind of a general CMM question. I'm running an old Numerex 24-28-18, PH9/TP2, CMM-M 12.0.1.8123 . I'm hoping to see if anyone has any advice for getting more accurate diameter measurements. After qualifying on the calibration sphere, and writing a small
